Several years ago when I was just starting out and had almost no familiarity with wood beyond plywood and pressure-treated 2x4's, I brought in a variety pack of veneer and they went through the whole pack with me & helped me ID each piece. They've also helped me out with random wood scraps (I work small) and information about varnishes. They're always helpful and friendly, and in addition to a wide selection of large boards (including exotic woods), they have random smaller, interesting pieces- I got a nice 1.5x1.5x18" piece of solid black ebony, and last time I was there, there was a basket of mango wood blocks!

I have been doing business with Pittsford Lumber for 40 years and have always been fully satisfied. Sherman, Val and Steve are honest, knowledgeable and always helpful. They have a great selection of hardwood lumber, cabinet grade plywood and other woodworking necessities. This is one of the few establishments left that run their business in a helpful & friendly manner.
Excellent choice of exotic woods. Wonderful service. Choice cuts. My husband and I both love to shop here.
There is also sometimes a very friendly and polite yellow lab to visit with. ^^
